Something sparked your interest or imagination and you began looking further. Some question bothered you enough to take a serious look at Christianity. Some painful life situation you face may be tugging at your inner thoughts and is seeking a creative resolution. You may have felt that inner restlessness that hungers for a deeper meaning and purpose for your life. You may have discovered that Jesus was seeking you just as you have been seeking him!
You are in a good place! You have moved in a very good direction! As a new Christian, you will find many others who share your quest for meaning and purpose. You will discover that the fellowship of others is a wonderful source of support, guidance and inspiration. Jesus promised that when “two or three gather together in his name, he will be together with them.” Your newness to Christianity will be greatly enhanced by your seeking a fellowship, a Church that nourishes your mind, heart and soul. Authentic Christians accept the tough questions of life. You will find that the empowering insights Jesus taught 2000 years ago are as relevant, meaningful and true today as they were when he first taught them. The technological, medical, psychological and scientific discoveries of today have exciting meanings for living what Jesus called “the more abundant life.”
The more you learn about Jesus and what it means to acknowledge him as Lord, the more you will experience periods of deep contentment and inner peace. You have the constant assurance that you are loved by one who cared enough to die for you. You will grow in your understanding that, even though “we have done things we ought not to have done and leave undone things we should have done,” his forgiving grace is available…simply for the asking. You will discover the importance of the cross as the most sacred symbol for Christians. It constantly reminds us that we have a vertical relationship with God and a horizontal relationship with each other. It reminds us further that we need both relationships to be whole human beings. You will be drawn to the sacred meal we call the Eucharist, Lord’s Supper or Communion. You will experience the deep spirituality of being nourished by consecrated bread and wine that become symbols of Jesus presence with us, in a very tangible way.
The more you live your journey with Jesus in the Church, the more you will be led to be of greater service to others. Christians know a secret that many others do not know: that the very deepest satisfactions and meanings in life come from addressing the needs of others. When we seek to serve others, Jesus is being honored also.
St. Peter’s welcomes you with an open mind and heart! As followers of Jesus, we look forward to sharing this exciting journey with you.
