Flocktoberfest returns to Phoenixville for its second year on Saturday, October 10, 2026, bringing neighbors together for an afternoon of birds, nature, creativity, and community connection at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania.
Hosted by Sprout Reach, St. Peter’s environmental justice initiative, Flocktoberfest celebrates Phoenixville’s growing identity as a Bird Town Pennsylvania community. Flocktoberfest makes nature engagement and birding welcoming and accessible to people of all ages and experience levels.
This year, Flocktoberfest takes inspiration from the 2026 World Migratory Bird Day theme of citizen science — showing how everyday observations of birds, plants, insects, and other wildlife around us can contribute to a greater understanding of the natural world. Guests will have opportunities to explore ways of observing, recording, and connecting with nature.

Scheduled Event Highlights
- Live Music – Singing Songbird Music Series (12:30 PM – 1:30 PM)
- The Singing Songbird Music Series returns for its second year with local folk-rock group Canadian Tuxedo, our singing housebirds who bring feel-good, family-friendly live music to the flock. Expect a few feathered favorites sprinkled into the set, including a fun “Rockin’ Robin” rendition.
- 🦉 Live Birds of Prey (1:00 PM – 4:00 PM)
- Get an up-close look at magnificent ambassador raptors from Indian Run Environmental Education Center (IREEC). An IREEC educator will be on hand throughout most of the afternoon (from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM) for live bird viewing, conversation, and plenty of opportunities to learn about these incredible birds.
- Bird-Themed Qigong (1:45 PM – 2:15 PM)
- Spread your wings and slow things down with Amy Atlee during a playful, bird-inspired Qigong session combining gentle movement, mindfulness, and a little avian inspiration.

- The ReReRe Plastics Committee (Phoenixville Green Team & Phoenixville Area Transition) returns with practical ideas, interactive activities, and live demonstrations for reducing single-use plastics in everyday life.
- Bird-Friendly Cloister Garden (All Afternoon)
- Step into St. Peter’s Bird-Friendly Cloister Garden, a living learning lab designed with birds — and people — in mind. Explore backyard birding ideas and simple ways to create habitat in small spaces and shady gardens, with tips you can bring home to your own patch of the outdoors.
- Phoenixville Community Nature Journal (All Afternoon)
- Revisit our Phoenixville Community Nature Journal, a community art exhibit inspired by the observation of nature around us. Tienfong Ho will offer nature-journaling demonstrations, helping guests slow down, observe closely, and turn what they notice into words, sketches, questions, and discoveries.
- Observe + Record: Citizen Science STEM Table (All Afternoon)
- See what happens when digital observation meets analog nature journaling. Explore hands-on STEM tools for getting a closer look at the natural world, then practice recording what you discover on paper — connecting technology, creativity, and observation.
- ✂️ Nature Crafts Stations (All Afternoon)
- Make something inspired by the natural world! Drop in throughout the afternoon for hands-on nature crafts and activities designed for kids — and kids at heart.

- Insect Garden – “Before” (All Afternoon)
- Get a “before” look at the second chapter of our cloister garden as Sprout Reach begins developing a dedicated insect and pollinator garden. See the space before its transformation, then come back for its debut during the 2027 Phoenixville Summer Garden Tour.
- Diocesan Flock, Local Momentum (All Afternoon)
- Discover how a local idea is growing its wings. With a $49,000 United Thank Offering (UTO) Grant and support from the Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania, Sprout Reach is expanding its work through Sproutsiders — a new STEAM-based nature-journaling initiative connecting nature, digital and analog observation, and accessible technology.

Why Flocktoberfest 2026?
This year marks an exciting new chapter for Sprout Reach, the environmental justice group at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. With a $49,000 United Thank Offering (UTO) Grant, Sprout Reach is expanding its work through Sproutsiders — a STEAM-based nature-journaling curriculum and new nature engagement initiative that brings together traditional observation, analog journaling, and digital observatory tools.
At the heart of Sproutsiders is a simple idea: you don’t have to travel far to experience nature. A bird outside a window, an insect in a garden, or a plant growing along the sidewalk can become an invitation to stop, look closer, ask questions, and record what you discover. Sproutsiders builds on Sprout Reach’s nature engagement model by pairing analog journaling with STEM tools to help people observe backyard wildlife in new ways. The goal isn’t technology for technology’s sake — it’s using different ways of seeing to help more people build a relationship with the natural world around them.
That makes World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD) 2026 an especially fitting backdrop for this year’s Flocktoberfest. With citizen science at the center of the 2026 WMBD theme, guests can discover that observing and recording the wildlife around them isn’t just a way to appreciate nature — those everyday observations can also contribute to our collective understanding of our everyday natural world.
Flocktoberfest is about more than birds. It’s about using birds as a gateway to nature, art, and community connection — and making those experiences accessible to people who may not traditionally see themselves as birders, naturalists, artists, or scientists.
And that brings Flocktoberfest back to where it began: community. Birds cross property lines, neighborhoods, municipalities, and borders. They give us something to notice together, learn from together, and care for together. Flocktoberfest 2026 carries forward the spirit of our inaugural 2025 gathering by bringing neighbors, community organizations, bird lovers, curious newcomers, families, and friends together in the places we share.
Last year, as a Bird Town, the Borough of Phoenixville took flight. This year, in 2026, we fly.
